Salford Learning Event
Date Posted: 14/10/24
Our First Locality Learning Event (Salford), Part of Fairer Health for All, took place on Friday 6th September online, where colleagues from across Greater Manchester heard about great work taking place in Salford.
It was the first Fairer Health for All Learning Hub Event, promoting Fairer Health for All and an opportunity to hear, learn and see how we can continue to work to reduce health inequalities as part of the Principles of Fairer Health for All.
Debs Thompson provided an overview before there were two presentations from expert speakers Jordan Moore and Chris Dabbs who each shared valuable insights from working alongside communities in Salford and approaches to consider when doing so too.
Jordan Moore presented on Coproducing improvement solutions with communities and measuring for improvement (specifically around childhood immunisations). The presentation demonstrated how improvements have been made for communities, with communities in the 'driving seat', and how the improvements are measured. This was showcased for a targeted Childhood Immunisations programme for the Jewish and Polish Communities.
Chris Dabbs presented on "Coproduction in action- a Salford social enterprise perspective to local economic development strategies to improve health. "
This presentation gave a perspective of coproduction on behalf of Unlimited Potential, a social enterprise based in Salford. Sharing how this approach is used to turn ideas into action working with communities opposed to doing to or doing for, using economies for healthier lives (a programme commissioned by The Health Foundation to economic development strategies to improve health, reduce health inequalities and use co-production at its heart) as an example.
The event was attended by 52 people from across Greater Manchester including colleagues from local authorities and NHS – (public health/health improvement teams, public health analysts, public health registrars and public health specialists, commissioning, health inequality leads, primary care engagement and health protection).
The event was well received by participants:
"It was useful particularly to take learning and see whether these can be applied to other areas."
"Great food for thought about unlocking ourselves to do what is needed for our communities."
"Great challenges for system change presented and impressive examples of true collaboration towards addressing inequalities."
Each locality area of Greater Manchester is being encouraged to look at hosting a locality learning event. When we have details of these, these will be added to the Fairer Health for All Events page here.
