Welcome to the Fairer Health for All Leadership Approach
For over a year, we’ve listened to citizens with lived experience of inequality, as well as those working in and with the health and care system. Through open, honest and moving conversations, we explored the kind of leadership we need and how we can develop it differently.
Shifting the status quo will take a collective effort, and each of us has a role to play. This work focuses on the contribution leadership can make, and particularly how we design leadership development. By rethinking both the what and the how of design, we can intentionally create access, raise awareness, redistribute power, and build the conditions for a fairer, more just future for health.
Doing things differently also means reimagining what counts as ‘the work’. Leadership is not only about strategy or decision-making; it is about seeing differently, thinking differently, feeling differently and putting relationships at the centre.
This is the foundation of the Fairer Health for All Leadership Approach. Across Greater Manchester, we’ve been working together to shape a new kind of leadership: inclusive, rooted in communities, and committed to tackling health inequalities.
To support this, we’ve created a set of tools for leaders at every level — whether you work in public services, community spaces, or are driving change in your own way. These tools are designed to help us think, feel, relate and act differently as we build a health system that reflects Greater Manchester’s values and diversity, and creates a fairer future for all.
